That's Good News!

What is The Gospel?
Jesus came to "preach the gospel". (Luke 4:18-19) The word "gospel" means "good news"!
Before we understand the GOOD news, we first need to understand the BAD news.
In the beginning, God made the first man and woman, named Adam and Eve. He placed them in a perfect world, a garden paradise. Mankind walked and talked with God in a world ruled by love. (Genesis 2:15-25) Ok, that's not bad at all. But things didn't stay that way.
God told Adam and Eve that they could eat the fruit of any tree in the garden except one: The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. He told them that they would die the day they ate of it.
This is where our problems began. Mankind decided to disobey God, to try to find fulfillment in their own selfish desires instead of the loving care of God. This selfish disobedience is called sin. This brought spiritual death into our world. We were created to live forever, but now every human being alive is to die. Brokenness entered our world and man was cast out of their garden home.
We see this brokenness everywhere. War. Poverty.Abandonment. Lies. Greed. People all over the world are trying to escape this brokenness. Some try to escape with drugs or alcohol. Some with sex and relationships. Some think they will escape brokenness by money or fame. Some even attempt to escape our broken condition with religion and rule-keeping. But the harder we try, the more we fall back into brokenness. No matter how hard we try, we are all fallen human beings. (Romans 3:23) That's the bad news.
Thank God, He did not leave us this way! That's where the gospel comes in.
God sent His Son, Jesus, to live on the earth as a man. The Bible teaches that Jesus was God in the flesh. He lived out His live without sin, yet willingly died by being nailed to a cross for the sin of all mankind. Then He rose from the dead three days later! If we turn from our sin and make Jesus our King, He saves us from brokenness and puts us in relationship with our Father God. (Romans 10:9-11)
THAT is the good news!
